Academic advising – same day service
Same-day academic advising is held when classes are in session during the fall and spring semesters. This service is unavailable on days when the university is closed. Please note that during the summer and winter break, advisors are available by appointment only.
NOTE: If a student does not have any holds, instead of an advising appointment, they may request course recommendations or a check of their scheduled classes using the Recs & Checks request form. Students can typically expect a response within 1-2 business days (though in peak seasons it may be up to 5 business days).

Same-day academic advising policy
To better address student needs, the Herberger Institute advising team has implemented the following same-day advising policy.
Same-day advising meetings are limited to 30 minutes or less. Because of this time constraint, the following advising services are appropriate for same-day advising:
- Follow-up from previous advising appointment.
- Digitally sign electronic forms (such as Word or PDF files that can be emailed to the on-call advisor).
- Checking over scheduled courses.
- Registration advising.
Given the limited time available in a same-day advising meeting, the following areas require a scheduled appointment with an academic advisor:
- New students, freshman and transfer.
- Students in need of long-term career or academic planning.
- Graduation Planning appointments for some majors (Animation, Art Education, Media Arts & Sciences, and Music).
