Students in any other Herberger Institute major who are pursuing the Secondary Education Certificate through Mary Lou Fulton College of Teaching and Learning Innovation must contact Mary Lou Fulton’s Team Gila ([email protected]) for the appropriate forms, processes and support.
Resources and preparation
Students must complete the Fingerprint IVP clearance check before they can start their first field experience. Information regarding this process is critical.
The placement criteria charts provide a detailed overview of the requirements for each professional field experience, including required hours, classroom type, grade range, mentor qualifications and the corresponding course title.
As you begin your field experience, it is important to connect with your mentor teacher and start with strong communication. View this example letter and take inspiration as you reach out to connect with your mentor teacher.
While placement with a specific district or school is not guaranteed, students may request consideration for a specific placement. If you are not familiar with the local school districts, take a moment to explore the options available.

Forms
This release form provides consent for the recording and use of photographs, audio, and/or video (“Materials”) of classroom instruction by supervisory faculty and staff to support the evaluation, reflection, and coaching of Teacher Candidates.
U.S. and Arizona Constitution is required by the Department of Education to teach in the State of Arizona. You can take one or more courses to satisfy this requirement prior to graduation or you can test out. You have up to three years after completing teacher certification to fulfill this requirement.

Placements for a fall semester submission deadline: July 1
Placements for a spring semester submission deadline: Dec. 1
If you miss the posted deadline, you will need to file a Placement Appeal below. Delays in submitting this form may affect your ability to secure a placement that aligns with your preferences and travel needs. For questions related to your placement, please contact [email protected].
If you missed the July 1 deadline for a fall placements or the Dec. 1 deadline for a spring placement, you will need to file an appeal for a late placement.
